Underground tram at Gürtel
The first urban rail transit which moved underground in Vienna was not today's subway, but a part of the tramway network. On southern Gürtelstraße ("belt street"), the trams were considered to disturb motorized traffic back in the 1960ies. So, a tunnel was built and the tram became a subway - somehow, at least...
